All county and city councils are required to prepare a local climate action plan to outline how they will reach the legally binding target of reducing their emissions by 51% by 2030. To empower members of the public to contribute to their local authority’s climate action plan, we have prepared a template with some useful points which can be used to inform submissions to each local authority’s draft climate action plan. We have also included information on how to make your submission.
How to make a submission
Step 1.
Check when your local authority’s next public consultation is taking place on our local authority Climate Action Plan submission timeline.
Step 2.
Follow the links on the timeline to make your submission.
Step 3.
Use our template or write your own submission.
Step 4.
Fill in the form and submit!
Some handy tips:
– Plans will be at different stages in different counties so you might want to tailor your submission slightly for maximum impact e.g. at Draft stage you may want to critique specific policies such as a council’s plans to expand the gas network.
– At the draft stage, if the council is proposing something you like the look of, tell them so! We are making lots of suggestions so it’s helpful to balance this out by acknowledging what they are doing well.
– Personalise your submission as much as you can. Please do use our template as a guide and reference but if you have time add in your own views and ideas as this will be more positively received by the council.
