The proposed Shannon and Cork LNG terminals would import fracked gas from the US, devastating communities there and locking us in to fossil fuels to 2050 and beyond. As negotiations to form a government continue, #climatejustice must be central any proposed programme for government. That means #noLNG, not in Kerry, not in Cork, not in Texas, not in Pennsylvania #notherenotanywhere. Time to say NO to LNG and #breakthefrackingcycle. It's no secret that the government wants to make it more difficult for environmental and social justice groups, and Irish people, to have our say on important policies. Time to pull them up on their dodgy behaviour! They tried to pull a fast one by launching a public consultation on something really important, Ireland's long-term GHG emissions reduction strategy, with a really tight deadline of **5pm 31st December 2019**. The questionnaire includes crucial questions on fossil gas and renewable energy - we need to let the government know that we can't accept fossil gas in our future energy mix! It's important that as many people submit to the public consultation as possible, so we have created a handy cheat sheet to make it easy peasy to fill in the government's dastardly questionnaire. The Taoiseach announced a ban on offshore oil drilling, the importation of fracked gas was debated in the Dáil, the Shannon LNG terminal was stalled, the European Investment Bank said it will stop funding fossil fuels, Cork City and County councillors voted almost unanimously against Cork LNG and over 500 election candidates signed the NHNA Fossil Free Election Pledge! This planned huge terminal would import fracked gas from the Rio Grand Valley in Texas with devastating impacts on vulnerable communities there. While also locking Ireland into dirty fossil fuels beyond 2050. At a meeting with Port of Cork today a delegation handed over a petition with over 3400 signatures and a civil society letter signed by over 50 groups asking Port of Cork to drop the project. We cannot let this project go ahead. #NOLNG #notherenotanywhere$

Ireland urgently needs to move towards clean energy but the Port of Cork is pushing to lock us into increased dependence on one of the most dangerous fossil fuels for several decades to come. In 2017, the Port of Cork signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with NextDecade, to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal. This will allow the importation of fracked gas from the USA. Fracking is an incredibly harmful method of extracting oil and gas. Ireland banned fracking because of its severe impacts on health and the environment. To inflict those impacts on indigenous and marginalised communities overseas is unbelievably hypocritical. There is no community consent for this project. In recent weeks both Cork City and County Councils have passed motions that they will write to the Port of Cork asking for an annulment of the plans to develop the project. Please stand up for people and the planet by showing the Port of Cork that this project is not welcome. We encourage you to bring signs if you can, as we will be taking a photo.$

What's the problem with #datacentres? We need to transition urgently from fossil fuels to renewable energy and a major step in the zero carbon energy transition is reducing energy demand.
But the government has big plans to increase demand for electricity in Ireland and put huge pressure on our grid by allowing multinational companies to build energy-intensive data centres all over the country.
Data centres are predicted to account for 36% of electricity demand in Ireland by 2030, yet each data centre only provides c. 30 jobs. Do we need data centres? Can they really be powered by renewable energy? Check out our short explainer here https://bit.ly/36YBZkL plus link in bio.
