Join our free ‘Data Centres and Energy Demand’ webinar on 11 March. This webinar will examine the topic of data centres and what part they might play in our society, highlighting their social, environmental and economic impacts. Speakers include: Patrick Bresnihan, Lecturer in Geography, Maynooth University, Phoebe Duvall, Planning and Environmental Policy Officer, An Taisce, and Ian Bitterlin, Consulting Engineer and formerly Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds.

Key questions will be explored including: What data is stored in data centres? Could they be more efficient? Do we need them and how should they be powered?

Next Thursday, we'll be exploring Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) infrastructure projects planned for Ireland; why they should be stopped; the debate on energy security and what politicians and the public can do to take action and prevent further fossil fuel infrastructure. We are delighted to be joined by speakers Prof. Barry McMullin (School of Electronic Engineering, DCU) and Frida Kieninger (Food & Water Europe campaign officer working on a ban on fracking in Europe), as well as members of NHNA. Attendees will come away with a stronger understanding of why LNG should not be part of Ireland's energy mix, and the importance of legislating to prevent the construction of LNG terminals in Ireland. As the year draws to a close we want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2021. This year has been a challenging one for all, sometimes it felt like one big zoom meeting. Gone was the post meeting/demo unwind catch-ups over a pint or tea which we all missed dearly. 2021 brings a new year and as we countinely build the movement in Ireland to #BreakFreeFromFossilFuels and working for a just transition for all communities both here and globally. What happened to #keepitintheground @eamondryan? Last week the Minister said we don't need "legislative underpinning" on offshore drilling. But legislation is ESSENTIAL. Without it, if the government falls it's right back to drill baby drill.

On #WorldOceansDay2020 it's time to #ditchthedrills! Offshore drilling for #fossilfuels has devastating impacts on marine life, from tiny plankton to large marine animals like whales and dolphins. Currently there are over 35 licences allowing companies to conduct exploration activity like exploratory drilling and seismic testing off the Irish coast, particularly off the coast of Cork and Kerry. We need the Irish goverment to place an immediate moratorium on ALL fossil fuel exploration activity in Irish waters.

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has been promoted as a $Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has been promoted as a “clean” fuel that will complement Ireland’s energy mix, but in fact LNG is a climate and human rights disaster. Two LNG import terminals are planned for Ireland in Cork Harbour and Tarbert, Co. Kerry, which would import fracked gas from the US. What impacts will these projects have on communities at the other end of the supply chain in the US? In this unique webinar we take a look at both sides of the toxic LNG supply chain, revealing the health and environmental impacts the LNG promoters fail to disclose.
